undoing decades of damage and giving the homeowner a fresh start.

Brick is beautiful. It’s durable, breathable, strong, and timeless. This project was about restoring a home that had been hacked apart and cobbled together.

This project was a full restoration of the facade. We were called in to point the brick and paint the cornice. Shortly after we started, we realized that there was a lot of damage to be undone.

At some point, one of the previous owners decided to shrink the windows, create a picture window on the first floor, install a window unit through the brick, paint the brick, and install aluminum single pane windows with concrete.

We meticulously stripped the paint, removed old mortar, and began the process of sourcing bricks from the same era throughout the city. We cut out the mismatched bricks, toothed into the original brick, and repointed with a historical masonry blend.

Once the pointing was done, we scraped and painted the cornice, added a storm door with custom capping, installed Pella high performance windows, replaced the electrical service, painted the door, and installed a new sconce. We also diagnosed and repaired other electrical issues throughout the house.

We’re really proud of how far we were able to take this one, and even though the window sizes aren’t original, the facade is cohesive and clean.
